Yuga Labs, known for its involvement in popular Web3 projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and CryptoPunks, announced new partnerships to further the development of Otherside. This interoperable metaverse platform aims to provide users with a community-driven experience across platforms including web, 3D and mobile.
Merging technical and creative expertise
Different companies will contribute specific skills to the development of Otherside. Hadean, a space technology company, will focus on building high-density simulation and networking solutions to enable high-fidelity virtual experiences. Meanwhile, AccelByte will provide an extensible backend platform for live gaming services, known for its scalability.
Further, Bad Rhino Studios will employ its developers, designers, artists and engineers to provide players with dynamic and social virtual experiences. In addition, Faraway will work on a moment-by-moment basis to develop engaging gameplay. “These best-in-class companies align with our vision of Otherside as an interoperable platform built with and serving our communities,” Reid added.
Eric Reid, General Manager of Otherside, said: “A core purpose of Otherside is to empower people to achieve their creative, experiential and economic goals.” He emphasized the importance of deep collaboration with makers and technologists in realizing the vision for Otherside.

Commitment to open development and interoperability
Yuga Labs expressed its commitment to building Otherside transparently, promising to share everything from demos to behind-the-scenes looks. Additionally, the company aims to refine the platform through real-time feedback from creators and communities. Yuga Labs also serves on the board of directors of OMA3, a coalition of web3 metaverse platform makers focused on interoperability and transparency.
By involving several global partners in the project, Yuga Labs aims to make Otherside a true driver of innovation, putting the power back in the hands of creators and the community.
What is Otherside?
On the other hand, a metaverse in development by Yuga Labs – the entity behind the well-known Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs – allows players to own a piece of the virtual world through Otherdeed NFTs. It includes NFT characters not only from Yuga Labs, but also from several other platforms.
Divided into five unique areas, the metaverse offers an engaging setting, complete with backstory and quests, where participants can interact with non-player characters and collect resources. Built for cross-platform compatibility, Otherside offers developers open data kits (ODKs), enabling the use of Otherside’s data in various applications and allowing players to use their NFTs across multiple games and platforms.
