House Margiela, a renowned Parisian fashion label, is making waves by venturing into the world of Web3 with an inventive, gamified coin experience. Known for its avant-garde designs and innovative creations, the brand integrates its signature numerical coding system with blockchain technology, allowing its customers to collect 24 distinctive digital collectibles.
The numbers game
The numbering system used for the tokens is a nod to the brand’s iconic clothing labeling system. Each Maison Margiela garment contains a label with the numbers 0 to 23, with one number circled. This circled number identifies the collection to which the piece belongs, adding a layer of meaning and exclusivity to each product.
The experience in hitting allows participants to mint tokens numbered 0 through 23. Each token represents a different rarity level, with ‘0’ the most common and ’23’ the rarest. The game becomes more intense as the countdown for capturing each token restarts every 60 seconds, adding an element of urgency and quick decision-making. Each collectible has a limited supply, and once it runs out, minting is no longer an option. The player who captures a token the fastest within the countdown will secure the collectible, making it a race against time.

A level playing field
Maison Margiela has leveled the playing field by freeing the minting process from gas fees. Furthermore, each digital asset is tied to its owner, making it non-transferable to others. This feature is closely aligned with the brand’s commitment to individuality and personal style.
Soulbound tokens are permanently linked to your individual wallet and identity, making them non-transferable. They cannot be sold or transferred to anyone else. This makes them great for digitally encapsulating assets such as certificates of competency, reputation and medical records, which cannot be purchased.
While the brand has not yet revealed the next steps for its community after the minting process, these collectibles are expected to play a major role in the yet-to-be-announced plans.
