Hacker breaches Nansen’s third-party vendor and exposes some of the crypto data company’s customer details

September 24, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

A hacker managed to steal a significant portion of crypto data company Nansen’s customer information after breaching one of the company’s third-party vendors.

Nansen recognized the attack in an announcement on social media platform

Nansen says a preliminary investigation found that the hacker managed to expose the personal information of 6.8% of its users.

“Of these users, their email addresses were visible, a smaller group also had password hashes visible, and the last, smallest group also had their blockchain addresses visible. We have informed our users via email whether and how they have been affected.”

Nansen claims that the third-party vendor is an “established company” used by multiple Fortune 500 companies and other companies in the crypto industry. The data company says it has asked the supplier to make the breach public, although at the time of writing it is still unclear which company is involved.

Nansen says users’ wallets won’t be affected because they aren’t asking for private keys, but the company is encouraging its affected customers to change their passwords and warning them to be wary of phishing attempts.
