October 24, 2023No Comments1 Min Read

Crypto fraud cases in the UK increased by 41% last year to £306 million, signaling the need to tackle cryptocurrency crime.

London Police Launches 40-Person Special Unit to Hunt Cryptocurrency Criminals

Taking a decisive step against the increasing use of cryptocurrencies in criminal activities, London’s Metropolitan Police has established a 40-person team specializing in crypto investigations.

The move comes as authorities voice concerns that digital currencies are now playing an increasing role in organized crime.

The appeal of cryptocurrencies for criminal networks lies in their capacity to hide assets and conduct cross-border transactions seamlessly.

Bitcoin, in particular, has long been favored for its ability to conceal illicit wealth transfers and poses a significant challenge to law enforcement around the world.

Latest statistics from leading law firm RPC reveal a 41% increase in reported crypto fraud cases in the UK last year, reaching a staggering £306 million.

This dramatic increase underscores the urgent need for targeted efforts to combat crypto-enabled criminal activity.
