Making the Grade on Convenience: USC Campus Store Adds Pickup with Quadient Smart Parcel Lockers

Parcel Pending by Quadient lockers help the University of South Carolina provide a more connected, supportive campus experience

Irvine, California.

Quadient (Euronext Paris: QDT), a global automation platform that enables secure and sustainable business connections, announces that the University of South Carolina recently Parcel being processed by Quadient’s smart parcel lockers to support the activities in the campus shop. Now students, faculty and staff have a faster, more flexible way to collect textbooks, course materials and merchandise, improving the overall campus experience. This is the third installation of package handling lockers on campus, with other locker units located near the residence halls.

The latest locker implementation builds on the university’s long-standing relationship with Quadient, which also supports campus mail services. As the university evaluated new ways to improve the student experience at the campus store, the ability to provide safe self-service pickup outside of traditional business hours quickly emerged as a priority. By integrating lockers into store operations, the university created a convenient, automated fulfillment option that reduces wait times, improves access during peak periods, and supports smoother distribution of thousands of physical course materials. Students now efficiently collect orders without having to wait in line, even outside of standard business hours, a benefit that directly supports academic readiness and daily campus life.

“We saw lockers as more than just a transactional pick-up point. They help us deliver a more connected, supportive campus experience,” said Joe Fortune, Director of Business Affairs, University of South Carolina. “The lockers have changed the way our store team spends their time. Rather than focusing solely on fulfillment, staff now have more opportunities to engage with customers and deliver a higher quality service.”

The initial feedback on the lockers at the campus store was very positive. Students have highlighted the speed, ease of use and expanded access as key benefits, while the professionally packed lockers with university-inspired designs have helped them integrate seamlessly into the campus environment. From an operational perspective, the shift to a self-service model allows employees to focus more on customer interactions and higher value activities. In addition, the lockers help remove bottlenecks at the start of school terms, ensuring the distribution of thousands of course packs quickly and without long queues.

Looking ahead, the university is exploring creative ways to use the lockers to strengthen relationships with the campus community, such as providing items through the lockers for game days or to recognize milestones and celebrate student achievements.

“We are honored to support the University of South Carolina in modernizing the campus shopping experience,” said Austin Maddox, executive vice president of North American Parcel Locker Solutions at Quadient. “In South Carolina, lockers are becoming part of campus infrastructure, expanding access, improving convenience and enabling new ways for the university to serve students and staff. We look forward to continuing our collaboration as the university expands how lockers can support everything from campus retail operations to broader campus needs.”
