A Fix Ethereum’s Growing Pains?

October 21, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

TL; DR

  • A ZkEVM Ethereum layer-2 network, called ‘Scroll’, has just been launched.

  • Every transaction in the group has been previously verified. This means that the computers processing them do not have to check whether they are legitimate (zero knowledge is obliged to prove they are legit).

  • Without ZK technology, the process of verifying transactions on the Ethereum network is more like truck #2: a long and tedious computing process where each transaction is checked one by one.

Full story

Okay, quick around!

What just happened?

A ZkEVM Ethereum layer-2 network, called ‘Scroll’, has just been launched.

(Ridiculous title, important technology).

What does it do?

It makes Ethereum transactions faster and cheaper!

How does it work?

Using Zero Knowledge Proofs – which works something like this:

Imagine loading two trucks with cargo.

When loading truck #1, all cargo has been pre-checked (everything that should be in each box has been reviewed and verified).

But when loading truck no. 2, the ‘preliminary check’ of the load was not carried out. That means opening, checking, verifying, repacking and loading each package. single. box.

The Scroll network uses ‘Zero Knowledge Proofs’ (ZK Proofs), which function like the payload on truck #1.

Every transaction in the group has been previously verified.

This means that the computers processing them do not have to check whether they are legitimate (zero knowledge is obliged to prove they are legit).

Without ZK technology, the process of verifying transactions on the Ethereum network is more like truck #2: a long and tedious computing process where each transaction is checked one by one.
