Web3 AirBnb, Anyone? | Web3 Daily

September 28, 2023No Comments1 Min Read

TL; DR

Full story

In 2014, after an hour-long guided campus tour, Chevy updated his Tinder profile with the text “Went to Harvard.”

The next product announcement is something like this…it is technically That is true, but language greatly embellishes what is actually happening.

Here’s the story we just read:

“Crypto-native booking platform Sleap.io will combine blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide every traveler with a personalized experience with seamless Web3 connectivity.”

…cool, what does that mean?

Once you filter through the haze of buzzwords, you’ll learn the following:

‘Sleap’ is a hotel booking platform where customers communicate and book directly with the hotels themselves (i.e. no ‘Expedia.com‘ or ‘AirBnb‘style intermediaries are involved, and neither are their fees).

The result:

  1. Users can avoid up to 30% in additional fees charged by competing Web2 marketplaces

  2. Guests can participate in Web3 loyalty programs if/when they are offered

  3. AI is used to select a selection of hotels for you to choose from

Does this justify the lavish splendor added to the company’s press release?

No. No that’s not true.

Will we happily accept a 30% discount on hotel bookings the next time we tour the Harvard Campus?

Absolutely, we will.
