Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino has revealed that the company saw a significant increase in users during the first quarter of 2025 amidst the broader crypto market volatility.
In a April 14th after Ardoinino announced on X that the number of USDT users increased by 13% during the period.
Although he did not give an exact figure in the post, Ardoinino had previously stated that Tether’s global user base had reached around 400 million.
At that time he noted that most of this adoption came from emerging markets such as Argentina, Brazil and Nigeria. In these regions, USDT acts as a digital dollar, which offers a reliable store of value and a practical alternative to unstable national currencies.
Tether’s Stablecoin plays a crucial role in countries that are confronted with economic challenges such as hyperinflation and limited access to traditional banking services. For millions, USDT offers an efficient way to save and transfer money without trusting a banking system that often excludes it.
The market capitalization of the Top Stablecoin continues to rise and repeatedly break new all time at $ 144 billion.
US-Founded Stablecoin?
Looking ahead, Tether is preparing to expand his footprint to the American market.
Talk about The wolf of all streets podcast With Scott Melker, Ardoino revealed that the company is investigating the US -dominated Stablecoin. This product would be in accordance with the upcoming American regulatory frameworks and meet institutional user cases.
Ardoino explained that, in contrast to USDT, that individuals serves in subjects, the USD would be designed at the US for payments and institutional financing.
He emphasized the contrast between American users, who are usually dependent on savings accounts and T-bills, and users in countries such as Turkey, where local currencies have lost considerable value against the dollar. In such economies, Stablecoins often serve as de facto spare products.
In the meantime, Ardoino also addressed that critics who claimed that Tether would avoid the American market.
He said:
“It was said from our competition that we would never touch the US, and that we were afraid of coming in the US … Now we want to play in the US, and we want to show that we can also be great and be the best in the US.”
