SynQor’s latest Mil-COTS module offers dual input, allowing for AC and DC inputs
BOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS / ACCESS Newsline / January 22, 2025 / SynQor, Inc. announces its new military-grade, isolated, 3-phase power factor correction module: the MPFIC-115-3PD-28R-FG. This full-brick module is designed to meet military standards on the ground, onboard and in aircraft and complies with MIL-STD-704 (AF), MIL-STD-461 (CF), MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-810G, and RTCA DO-160G. To enable greater interoperability, the module supports inputs from a 270 Vdc or a three-phase 115 Vrms source, allowing compatibility between systems. When operated from a 115 Vrms source, the MPFIC draws balanced input currents within ±1% and delivers an isolated output power of 330 W at 28 Vdc, providing superior reliability in accordance with MIL-STD-1399-300B. In accordance with MIL-STD-704, the module features slightly lagging active power factor correction. When combined with a MCOTS AC line filter, a system can extract a near-perfect sinusoidal current with a power factor close to unity (PF > 0.99) from the power source. This is achieved even at a load of only 50 W when powered from a 60 Hz source or 250 W from a 400 Hz source. This high level of performance is complemented by an impressive efficiency of 92.5%, ensuring minimal energy loss during operation. Notably, the MPFIC has a wide frequency range and can operate seamlessly at frequencies as low as 47 Hz and as high as 800 Hz. In addition, the MPFIC provides excellent total harmonic distortion at an output power of 110 W or higher.

To withstand the rigors of military ground, naval and aerospace applications, the MPFIC-115-3PD-28R-FG’s construction is rated for the most hostile environments. Designed to meet the stringent shock/vibration and environmental requirements of MIL-STD-810G, this part is fully enclosed and ruggedly built. When operated from a three-phase 115 Vrms source, the module can provide full power over a wide base plate temperature range from -55 to 100 °C.
The MPFIC contains a variety of status signals, an RS-232 serial interface, an output control pin “Enable” and a “Battle-Short” pin. In addition, the module provides AC_GOOD and DC_GOOD control signals, allowing designers to easily assess the status of the unit. Detailed converter statistics are accessible via a 9,600 baud serial interface. The module output can also be enabled or disabled via the “Enable” pin. The “Battle Short” pin allows users to override possible shutdowns due to over-temperature or input stage failure, ensuring performance under critical conditions.
