El Salvador is taking an important step to establish itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI).
On April 21, the Bitcoin office of the country announced That the Midden -American country had signed a declaration of intent (LOI) with a leading AI company Nvidia to develop sovereine AI options. The agreement will release the way for the first national AI lab of El Salvador.
Bitcoin Office -Director Stacy Herbert unveiled That the initiative will focus on building domestic AI infrastructure and training local talent. She described the AI-LAB as a first of its kind of project tailored to the broader vision of the country on technological self-supply.
Nvidia’s collaboration
The NVIDIA cooperation will enable El Salvador to gain access to the advanced AI platforms and tools of the company.
These means will support the creation of AI systems that are aimed at local priorities, such as improving health care, modernizing education and stimulating the economic output.
Another goal of the LOI is to build AI-driven weather forecast models. These tools are expected to improve the response times of emergency situations and manage the hydro -electric power more efficiently, especially in areas that are susceptible to mud flows and floods.
The collaboration includes the launch of national training programs to strengthen the pipeline of the country. These will focus on students, researchers and government employees, who help to cultivate a competent workforce that is able to stimulate AI innovation from within.
The statement added:
“This announcement comes at a crucial moment, because Nations worldwide recognize AI as a critical engine of economic competitiveness and social progress. The declaration of intent from El Salvador with Nvidia positions it as a leader under emerging economy that embraces this transformative technology.”
Other AI efforts
In addition to infrastructure, El Salvador gives priority to AI training. The country recently launched its Cubo_AI initiative and offered AI courses at university level through its urban centers for well-being and opportunities (CUBO).
The inaugural session, which is expected to start this week, will have a lecture by Ark Invests Cathie Wood.
Herbert also noted that El Salvador is in the third month of the ARK training AI and Robotics pilot, with 20 schools and nearly 19,000 students. These programs are intended to prepare the next generation AI professionals.
In addition to public education, El Salvador took an important step forward by introducing his first National AI legislation in February. The law emphasizes the development of open-source and at the same time set up clear AI research and implementation rules.
