A Defillama developer, @0xngmi accused Artemis of using Defillama’s own data without the correct attribution. The controversy that broke out on X has caused a debate about data possession and ethics within the web3 and the Decentralized Financial Space (Defi).
Defillama is the largest Defi-data analysis platform and offers real-time data in various Defi protocols. It has proven to be an essential tool for investors and researchers who need reliable statistics in Defi.
Artemis used Defillama’s data without allocation
In a tweet that Viral went on Crypto Twitter, said @0xngmi: “I found out that one of our competitors, a data site supported by VC, used our data without attributing.” Uploaded screenshots by @0xngmi show cards, both of which have the source as “artemis”.
@0xngmi explained in the tweet That they had noticed that the competitor’s data were exactly the same as what was in the DB of Defillama, and in an attempt to confirm this, they uploaded random numbers to the database of a dead protocol, and “then the same artificial songs appeared On their site, on a graph with ‘Source: Artemis’. “
In response to the tweet by @0xngmi, Crystal Tai (@crystaltaixyz), an engineer at Artemis, claims That the attribution problem came from a bug and that Artemis had accurately referred to Defillama in other places.
hey @0xngmi thank you for marking this to us
Apologies, this is a bug in our attribution system
We have attributed to Defillama in other places, but have missed a few things
We will work to get this fixed ASAP -Pic.twitter.com/kut1pnceco

After this, Artemis followed one rack of his X page that confirms that it is certain statistics for certain Defillama assets. However, the team missed the granting of some because of supervision. “We want to clarify that we find some statistics for certain assets from Defillama and are always aimed at attributing this data correctly. We had missed attributing costs for a few assets – this was a supervision that we have now corrected. “
Open-source projects are vulnerable to data abuse
Defillama, which is generally known for its extensive analyzes, has become an essential tool for investors and analysts who need reliable statistics on decentralized platforms. The data it produces give it a competitive advantage.
However, if another company such as Artemis, a competitor who also provides real -time data and financial information services on digital assets, does not recognize the use of such data, it will find the core of trust and cooperation ethics in the decentralized space.
The Defi and Crypto space thrives on decentralization and transparency. So, ethical data processing and use are of the utmost importance. Critics of the open-source model have used the gap between the two data analysis platforms to revive their argument about how predatory competitors can use data without the correct attribution.
Artemis, however, says that this is only a supervisory problem and without malignant intention, saying: “We appreciate data transparency and correct attribution and have all other sources correctly credited.”
