Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster confirmed the brokerage plans to add Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) trade for his customers during a Interview with CNBC on July 18.
According to Wurster, the move comes to see all their exposure to assets in the same dashboard.
He said:
“Our customers are invested in crypto today.”
He explained that the customers of the company already have more than 20% of all crypto exchange products (ETPs) in the US, worth around $ 25 billion. However, this number is only approximately 0.2% of the $ 10.8 trillion of the company on the total balance of the customer.
Wurster’s comments confirm Reports from the beginning of May About the importance of the company in Crypto Handelsdiensten.
Clients are looking for one -off custody
Wurster has framed the place Bitcoin and Ethereum Access as a consolidation tool instead of a company to speculative trade.
He said that many households already keep 98% of their wealth at Schwab, but retain a small piece “one or two percent” roof on specialized crypto platforms, so that they can hold coins immediately.
The CEO of Charles Schwab noted:
“They really want to bring it back to Schwab because they trust us.”
Moreover, he said that customers prefer Crypto in addition to shares, bonds and cash on one dashboard.
Wurster expects the rollout to “speed up our growth”, because baldi would migrate elsewhere as soon as Schwab offers direct custody. He has not specified no launch date and only said that the service will arrive ‘somewhere soon’.
Direct rivalry with Coinbase
Asked if the addition sets a head -te -head -match with Coinbase, Wurster replied “Absolutely”.
He said that Schwab wants customers who are currently buying coins at Coinbase to return those companies to Schwab, where the brokerage already offers around the whistleblowers, research tools and integrated portfolio report.
The upcoming service from Schwab will supplement the exposure to crypto that it already supports through exchange products advanced by exchange.
Wurster has not discussed reimbursements, trade performance partners or wallet architecture, but he emphasized that the company will apply the same guardianship standards that it uses for traditional effects.
