Definition:
The automotive anti-lock braking system, or automotive ABS, is a crucial safety feature in modern cars that allows drivers to steer or maintain control while braking. Traditionally, braking causes the wheels to lock quickly regardless of the vehicle’s speed in a system without ABS. This causes a driver to lose all control of the car, which can be fatal. Automotive ABS, on the other hand, avoids these conditions by shortening the braking distance. Electronic control units, pumps, valves and speed sensors are the most important parts of a car ABS. When speed sensors detect a decrease in wheel rotation while using ABS, they alert the ECU. The brake pads are partially released by the ECU, allowing the wheel to continue moving.
