In short
- Apple unveiled major updates on its platforms on WWDC 2025, led by a new visual system called Liquid Glass.
- The company emphasized privacy -oriented improvements with the help of Apple Intelligence.
- Updates include new message functions, real-time translation, improved developer tools and OS upgrades for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch and Vision Pro.
Apple finished his WWDC 2025 -Keynote on Monday with major updates for its device operating systems and a striking new design. But for all refinements on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, there was a question: what happened to Apple Intelligence?
When Apple’s big push in AI was introduced on WWDC 2024, CEO Tim Cook described it as a “new chapter” for the company – one that combined Apple’s hardware with the growing momentum of generative AI. Apple Intelligence was intended to place the company in the same competition as OpenAi, Nvidia, Google and Microsoft.
A year later, that promise remains largely unfulfilled and has drawn up both the broad criticism and the revolution of companies.
Indeed, the most important impact on the AI landscape may be a research paper entitled “The Illusion of Thinking” last week, in which the company outlined and warned the limitations of large language models against overestimating their reasoning options. The newspaper emphasized that although LLMS may seem intelligent, they are mainly dependent on pattern recognition.
Nevertheless, today’s conference has been opened with Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federitehi from Software Engineering Craig Federerghi who announces his AI integration: “We make the generative models that make Apple Intelligence Intelligence in our ECOSY.
Federerghi announced that Apple opens its AI infrastructure for developers via a new “Foundation Models Framework” with which apps can directly tap on the same intelligence on the devices that drives Apple’s own software. Updates of Xcode introduce generative tools for developers, including integration with chatgpt, predictive code -voltage and conversation programming via Swift Assist.
Perhaps Apple was insufficient in the hope of delivering too much after the debacle of the Apple Intelligence EXPOL.
Instead, the presentation today paid more attention to a radically visual redesign of OS X and iOS, which brought more UX conformity throughout the entire Apple product suite. The redesign has “liquid glass”-a responsive, context-conscious design element that adapts to contact, content and context between devices. The redesign influences everything, from the lock screen to system icons, with the aim of making transitions between Apple devices seamlesser.
Other updates unveiled on WWDC include improvements to messages that now support survey, adapted backgrounds, typing indicators, group benefits and improved spam filtering. Live translation makes real -time language translation possible in messages, Facetime and phone calls using AI.
The telephone app receives upgrades, including Hold Assist – a way to take revenge on hold through a standby mode that you warn when the person you are trying finally calls answers – and screening calls that callers asks to identify themselves before they connect. That function, it is worth mentioning, came with Google Voice when it rolled out in 2009.
Other updates include:
- iPados 26: A new WindoOWS system, an improved files app and professional audio/video workflows.
- Visionos 26: Spatial computer improvements and support for external accessories, including the PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller.
- Watchos 26: A talkative ‘workout -buddy’ gives you encouragement during your routines.
Apple said that the updates will be available in July in a public beta, with complete releases in the fall.
