Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund Mubadala raised his exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) during the first quarter and the purchase of 491,000 shares of BlackRock’s Ishares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), according to its latest form 13-F entry.
Mubadala had 8,726,972 Ibit shares from 31 March, an increase of 6% compared to the previous quarter and worth around $ 408.5 million at the end of March and more than $ 512 million at current prices.
Despite a broader price volatility, the increase in share count emphasizes the dedication of the sovereign power fund to Bitcoin. Based on his public disclosures, the IBIT position of the fund accounts for around 0.14% of its $ 302 billion in total assets management.
In particular, Abu Dhabi has other important state -owned companies, such as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), the Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ) and the Emirates Investment Authority (EIA).
Wisconsin leaves Bitcoin ETF exposure
The State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB), which manages assets for the Wisconsin Retirement System and other funds managed by the State, reported No Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) holdings from 31 March, making its exposure effective in the first quarter.
SWIB had announced 6,060,351 shares of IBIT worth $ 321.5 million in the fourth quarterly application. This represented an increase of 110% compared to the 2,898,051 shares that it had during the second quarter of 2024.
The position of SWIB had previously replaced his possession of GBTC from Grayscale, which had it in the second quarter of 2024. However, the full output that is reflected in the newest submission suggests a re-assessment of short-term exposure to crypto by ETF structures.
The contrasting strategies between Mubadala and SWIB reflect a divergence in the state -supported positioning to Bitcoin in the midst of a fleeting price environment at the beginning of 2025.
While Mubadala chose to expand his exposure through a higher number of shares, despite a falling asset value, the liquidation of SWIB indicates reduced risk tolerance or a pivot in the portfolio strategy.
Both archives offer updated data about the response of institutional investors to Bitcoin’s volatility through ETF-based access as traditional financing integrates with crypto.
