The Ethereum Foundation is launching a full-time team that is dying on the latest priority of the network: not only becoming the foundation of the AI economy, but also of AI software development in general.
The DAI team, mentioned in a nod to the long-term principles of decentralization and democracy of Ethereum, will focus its efforts on promoting the development of AI systems in the crypto ecosystem and on bringing top players in the off-chain AI industry on the network.
“We want to bridge the gap between blockchain organizations and AI organizations,” said Davide Crapis, an Ethereum core developer who will lead the DAI team, said Decrypt.
The team will initially contain two other full -time roles, for which the Ethereum Foundation is currently taking on.
Crapis said that the investment of the Ethereum Foundation in a full-time AI operation shows the recognition of the organization that the sector will be “key” for its long-term sustainability.
“We realize that AI will be a large part of the lives of all people,” he said. “And it will be a large part of the use of Ethereum in the future.”
In the short term, the team will focus on implementing proposals such as ERC-8004Who would create a standard for AI agents to seamlessly discover, verify and handle each other over the Ethereum ecosystem.
That proposal, of which Ethereum developers hope that the network as the de-facto settlement layer for the exploding AI agency economy will be cemented, is still being completed. It will be presented in its final form at DevisnectAn Ethereum Developer Conference that will be held in Buenos Aires in November.
Looking ahead to the future, Crapis said that his team will concentrate on the even greater purpose of setting up a decentralized AI stack that is designed to “ensure that the future of AI is not in the hands of some very powerful companies.”
However, that does not mean that Ethereum is necessarily planning to wage war with OpenAI. Crapis says he sees AI as the next Defi chance of Ethereum-one who, after years of adoption of the base, ultimately even attracts once Hesitant Centralized settings.
“The emphasis must be on building the best decentralized technology that we can offer,” said the developer.
“The infrastructure of Ethereum has so far focused primarily on finance,” he continued. “It must also be very useful for AI.”
The DAI team of the Ethereum Foundation is already working on research collaborations with large Silicon Valley companies, of which Crapis said it will be announced in due course.
