Asset Manager Bitwise has requested to launch a Spot Chainlink Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) in the United States, according to a 26 August submit With the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The proposed fund, called the Bitwise Chainlink ETF, would publish shares that represent fractional interests in Chainlink held by the trust. These shares are expected to be stated on a national securities fair, although the submission does not yet specify the ticker.
If approved, the product would mark the first US ETF that was designed to offer direct exposure to the digital active.
Chainlink ETF
Chainlink has become one of the most used decentralized Oracle networks, which provides off-chain data to smart contracts in Ethereum and other blockchain networks.
The links, the 11th largest digital active in market capitalization, supports this activity, compensates node operators for the collection of external information and the execution of calculations.
In the course of time, Chainlink has also extended its reach to traditional finances, in which partnerships are melted with financial institutions such as Swift, Visa, Mastercard and JPMorgan.
As a result, there has been a considerable institutional demand for the digital active.
In view of this, BitWise said that the objective of the ETF is to reflect the value of Chainlink links in custody, after taking into account reimbursements and expenses.
According to the submission:
“The trust is passively managed and does not pursue active management investment strategies, and the sponsor does not actively manage the Trust chain link.
This means that the sponsor does not sell a chain link at times when his price is high or kin link acquires at low prices in the expectation of future price increases.
It also means that the sponsor does not use one of the available cover techniques for professional investors in the chain link to try to reduce the risks of losses due to price decreases. “
The company added that the prizes of the fund would rely on the CME CF Chainlink -Dollar Reference Rate (New York Variant), a benchmark that is published daily by CF Benchmarks Ltd. Coinbase Custody Trust Company will serve as a custodian for the underlying tokens.
With this product, Bitwise tries to bridge decentralized infrastructure with regulated markets by wrapping chain link in an ETF format.
The approval of archiving would not only expand the access of investors to Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, but also emphasize that the growing demand for exposure to assets that play a fundamental role in decentralized financing.
