Litecoin delivered a clear one warning For everyone who is navigated by the crypto world: the era of real decentralized, reasonably launched, proof-of-work (POW) coins without borders, premines or ventop capitalists is behind us. In the midst of increasing centralization and increasing threat of attacks, it pays to ‘choose your freedom money wisely’.
“In principle, it is impossible to duplicate the launch of a fully decentralized, reasonably launched, no pre-mine, boundless, boundary, void of VCs, hard-covered POW-Cryptocurrency, such as that of Bitcoin or Litecoin and not having it caught or attacked.”
Why matter and decentralization: the Monero attack
Recent events with Monero (XMR) help illustrate Litecoin’s message. On August 12, 2025, Monero suffered an attack of 51% after the Qubian mining pool gained majority control over the hash speed, reorganizing six blocks and pointing around 60 others.
This temporarily endangered network protection, forced Kraken Exchange to suspend Monero deposits and sent the price more than 13%in a week. The attack emphasized an important vulnerability of POW chains that do not miss critical masses (especially those that are aimed at privacy with fewer miners), which shows that even groundbreaking projects with solid privacy technology, such as Monero, are not immune if their degree of decentralization is insufficient.
Proof of interest and the dangers of co-option
While POW chains such as Bitcoin and Litecoin have remained loyal to their launch principles, many newer chains have taken over the consensus proof-of-stake (POS) in a search for reduced energy consumption and higher transaction speed.
With POS, users can use coins to secure the network and earn rewards. However, the centralizing tendencies of POS are well documented. According to the academic studyCentralization in proof-of-stake block chains: a game theoretical analysis, by July 2025, more than 60% of the Ethereum used belonged to only five entities, including Lido and large fairs.
This concentration led to administrative votes in which a small number of stakeholders achieved disproportionate power, which influenced upgrades and protocol changes.
Solana’s validator and the setting up of ecosystem is dominated in the same way by a handful of well -capitalized entities. This exposes the network to surplus influence and increased risks of censorship or manipulation if those actors coordinate, are put under pressure or compromised; “Co-Opted”, as Litecoin wrote.
Although POS is efficient and scalable, the fate of the system can depend on large holders, making it vulnerable to recording the regulations, exchanging drop -out or orchestrated attacks. The same study showed that the more centralized commitment becomes, the greater the chance of network co option, in contrast to the more resilient distributed mine models of classic Pow-Blockchains.
The value of “freedom money”
Although there is demonstrably not a second best, Bitcoin and Litecoin, both launched without VC money or pre-mines and with fixed food caps, remain touch stones for real ‘liberty money’. Their dependence on open POW-MINING, global distribution and established security has protected them from many co-current risks.
Widespread distribution of mining power, permanent supplies (21 million for Bitcoin, 84 million for Litecoin) and permissionless participation makes them rare examples in an increasingly centralized crypto landscape.
With the rise of attacks on vulnerable POW networks and increasing the centralization of POS chains, Litecoin’s advice could no longer be in time. Freedom money is not just about price; It is about resilience, distribution and the possibility to resist the inclusion from inside or without, not only defining your portfolio, but also your financial sovereignty.
