Just over a year ago, Moonbirds Was a warning story.
The once hyped Ethereum Profile photo (PFP) Project, launched in 2022 by the proof of Kevin Rose a huge questionHad seen his reputation crater in the midst of community removal, ownership shaking and falling prices.
Holders grabbed broken promises, shifting route maps and changing leadership. In mid-2023, the floor price of the project had fallen from double digits ETH heights to well under 1 ETH, making it a permanent clou in NFT circles.
Fast forward to today, and Moonbirds is flying high again and is again one of the most spoken collections in Crypto. The catalyst? His May -acquisition by Orange Cap GamesA studio for gaming and IP development led by Spencer Gordon-Sand, which continues its first name online.
That movement, announced in May, was intended to give the studio a building to build around, but it also put a spark under the once geopped collection.
“We wanted to raise our growth to the next level by acquiring our own indigenous IP,” Spencer said Decrypt. “Moonbirds is my favorite IP in crypto. I was once the biggest holder of peculiarities because I was just so bullish about mythical art, and I think it will be delivered completely. The Birbs are sick.”
When Orange Cap Moonbirds took over for the first time, the brand was effective in Stasis after the acquisition by Bored Ape Yacht Club Creator Yuga Labs A year earlier.
“The activities had not been actively managed for a while,” Spencer recalled. “We had to follow a step -by -step approach: first re -activate the existing community and then bring in crypto -twitter and new people who had no exposure before.”
That strategy has shifted greatly in recent weeks. Although Spencer would not directly comment on price speculation, he noted that then Orange Cap came in, the price floor – or value of the cheapest NFT on a marketplace – only 0.29 ETH.
Now it’s above 3 ETH. But the swing looks even more dramatic in US dollars, due to the recent rise in Ethereum’s price. Moonbirds traded for less than $ 800 in May, but from Friday they started with almost $ 14,000 at market places.

It reminds of the Second life success by Pudgy PenguinsAn NFT brand that cratered in the early 2022, amidst leadership issues and community of the community. The Ethereum project sold to entrepreneur Luca Netz, rose to fresh peaks thanks to the viral success of his social media strategy, token-linked toys sold in large regular stores such as Walmart and other efforts.
In the midst of the Moonbirds Price Swing and its own change in ownership, the Community Energy has been feeling different lately. Although an increase in the value will certainly cause someone to dedicate, Spencer believes that holders of Moonbird’s have other reasons for renewed optimism.
“A lot of crypto is very fisted,” said Spencer. “That is not Moonbirds. The community really gives you to be in the lead in technology. Because we collaborate with protocols and others, they are not only interested in agriculture or fast Flips.”
The power of “Birbish”
One of the more surprising drivers of the turnaround was not a major technical integration or approval of celebrities – it was a linguistic shift.
“If I had to attribute our momentum to one thing, it is the decision to deliberately introduce the word ‘Birb’ in the vernacular around the collection,” said Spencer.
“Birbs and ‘Birbish’ are just deep mimetic,” he added. “‘GBIRB’ is the calling card of the community. ‘Birbish’ is an easy, meaningful and effective response to every question. It gets a brand new life with a younger, fresher, more memetic feeling.”
On Wednesday, after Bitcoin all time reached high, the famous crypto artist Mike “Pieple” Winkelmann placed a new piece called “All Time High” with a clear reference to Moonbirds. The piece shows an unreadable McDonald’s counter littered with crypto graffiti, including the word “birbish” scribbled over the front.
Moonbirds has helped this kind of identity reefame to re -connection with NFT Twitter culture, where memes often make or break a brand.
Looking ahead, Orange Cap Games has a simple vision: “The long -term goal is to bring the Birbs to Birbhalla,” said Spencer.
Orange Cap, known for bringing IP to life through its Pudgy Penguins-theme Vibes Trade Card game, sees Moonbirds as a cornerstone for wider entertainment and gaminginitiatives, comparable to how Labubu Giant Pop Mart develops both collaborations as its own characters such as Hirono. But they do not share any concrete plans yet.
“We have many cool things we are working on, but we have that [never] Made specific obligations in public, and that is very delicious, “said Spencer.
“If you want to ride with us, drive with us,” he continued. “We will do cool things during this ride, but when teams do specific obligations before they are ready to deliver, this is usually what places them in difficult situations when they have to run or something. That’s why you see many teams holding old promises.”
Are NFTs back?
It is not only Moonbirds who have been flying again lately. The influential cryptop runs also recently reached a price of more than three years in American dollars, which traded for nearly $ 250,000 per doll, while other “Blue Chip” NFTs, such as the “Fidenza” gene collection of Tyler Hobbs for artificial blocks for artificial blocks, have also posted multi-year highlights lately. And NFT -Handelsvolume rose in July compared to June.
But Spencer quickly pays the hype. There is more buzz around NFTs than there has been in a while, but he warned to assume that another wild tree is imminent.
“Yes, but it’s not every NFT collection,” he said about the current Upsswing. “It is exactly as the Dot-Com Bubble-many things went publicly on a domain name, but when the water went out, you saw who swim naked. From that came Facebook, Amazon, Google.”
“The same happens here,” he said. “The next cycle is now. It is not that foamy, but real brands and real companies can rise to the top.”
