- Supermicros BigTwin® Multi-Node Server with 5one Gene Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors is now certified by Intel
- Servers system design supports OCP-horizontal guidelines that make industrial-wide compatibility possible
San Jose, Calif.” July 1, 2025 / Prnewswire/ – Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI)A total IT solution provider for AI/ml, HPC, Cloud, Storage and 5G/Edge, announces an industry -hundred complain cooling certification for Supermicro’s BigTwin Server with 4one and 5one Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors from Intel. With rigorous tests, the Supermicro server, in combination with a defined liquid and immersion tank, is tested quality/performance and is now recognized as a certified exhibition server. In addition, the Supermicro BigTwin system has thoroughly tested as specified by the Open Compute Project (OCP) specification for material compatibility for immersion cooling.

“Supermicro’s collaboration with Intel is a long -term, strategic association that combines Intel’s advanced processor technologies with Supermicro’s powerful building block solutions, including AI, HPC, Intelligent Edge/IoT, Networks and Storage,” said ” JetSenior Vice President of Technology Enablement, Supermicro. “The certification of our BigTwin server for immersion cooling within the guidelines and OCP guidelines and practices ensures that customers will be fully functional when they are immersed in the specified liquid.”

Supermicro-hijpeling-certified servers can considerably lower the effectiveness of the power (PUE) by using advanced immersion technology that eliminates the need for traditional cooling systems based on air base. Due to the immersion of factory-built high density, fanless servers directly in dielectric liquid, heat disappears much more efficiently than with air, reducing the energy required for cooling solutions such as crac and Crah units. This approach not only minimizes the cooling overhead, but also makes denser calculation configurations possible without increasing the thermal load. In addition, the removal of internal server ventilators reduces overall IT equipment consumption, which improves the effectiveness of the power consumption (PUE). Consequently, data centers that use Supermicro Immersion servers are able to achieve PUE values near 1.05 or lower, so that the energy costs and the impact of the environment for the entire data center are considerably reduced.
“Intel worked hand in hand with Supermicro, along with important tank and liquid providers, to certify their multi-junction BigTwin® system, which means that the rigorous tests are passed on that immersion cooling requires,” said Rami KhourriIntel VP, Platform Engineering Group GM, Data Center Hardware Engineering. “This first solution in its kind, known as Intel Data Center certified for immersion, ensures that Supermicro customers can be convinced that the BigTwin systems will continue to perform as expected and its data center for a clear path towards sustainable, efficient cooling in the AI era.”
Supermicro, as a member of the Open Compute Project (OCP) Advisory Board, played a crucial role within the OCP community. The OPLENION PROJECT PROJECT -Cooling recommendations offer considerable benefits by ensuring compatibility, efficiency and scalability between data center implementations. These guidelines promote standardized hardware interfaces, liquid specifications and operational best practices that simplify the integration and maintenance of immersed systems.
“We are grateful for the role that Supermicro has played within the OCP community and would like to see what the future has in store,” Michael SchillSenior Director of Community, Open Compute Project Foundation. “The expertise of the leadership and the industry of the Supermicro team played an important role in implementing innovation, not only within the immersion subproject, but throughout the OCP community.”
The use of Supermicros Bigtwin immersion servers in addition to Intel’s Advanced Data Center Development Laboratory (ADDL) immersion technology includes immersion of server components in a thermal -conducting dielectric liquid. This method effectively dispels heat, which makes improved performance and reduced energy consumption possible compared to traditional air cooling. The BigTwin servers from Supermicro have demonstrated reliability within the OCP specifications and have data centers achieve improved thermal management and operational efficiency.
The BigTwin Server architecture of Supermicro is a multi-junction platform with high density that is designed to deliver exceptional performance and efficiency for demanding workloads. In combination with Intel’s advanced data center liquid immersion cooling solution, Supermicro BigTwin servers offer a compelling combination of computing power and thermal management.
Specifically, the now tested system of certified system consisted of:
- Pigtwin® Super serious SYS-21BT-HNTR
- Four hot-pluggable systems (nodes) in a 2U shape factor. Each node supports the following:
- Socket E (LGA 4677) Support 5th/4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors Intel® C741
- 16 DIMM slots that support a maximum of 4 TB memory; ECC RDIMMS to DDR5-5600
- 2 PCIE 5.0 X16 (LP) Slot;
- Topless support
- Internal PCIE 4.0 for 2 x4 m.2 NVME support on board
- Optional M.2 (22 × 80) HW RAID1 NVME BOOT controller via SCC-A2NM2241G3-B1
- Network connectivity via AIOM (OCP 3.0 -Compatibel)
- 3000W redundant power supplies titanium level (96%+); Shared strength design
The work on the Intel – horizon solution of Intel – especially in collaboration with Supermicro and other ecosystem partners – has considerably promoted the Open Compute Project (OCP) standards of Impute Project (OCP), in particular when defining acceptable operating conditions, safety and reliability of components within immersion circumstances.
The growing demand for immersion servers, in particular the supply of Supermicro, stems from the increasing need for highly efficient cooling solutions in data centers, especially because AI and HPC applications require increasingly powerful processors. Honetime cooling offers a more efficient and more sustainable way to manage the heat generated by these processors compared to traditional air cooling methods and can reduce the PUE in a data center to almost 1.0.
