Zilliqa Blockchain Network has officially moved from version 1.0 to 2.0, a protocolupgrade that restructures the architecture of the blockchain.
According to a press release that is shared with crypto.news, the update Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is introducing compatibility, a new consensus model for proof-of-stake and infrastructure that is designed to support institutional use cases.
The rollout follows a test phase of six months with 21 external validators. During this period, the Proto-Linet processed 7.5 million blocks and completed 15 clients.
The most important characteristics of the upgrade are modular components that enable greater network flexibility and future scalability. The update also introduces support for tokenized assets, verifiable smart contracts and compliance-released defi-infrastructure.
With EVM compatibility now in force, developers Ethereum-Native applications can implement Zilliqa without significant changes. The platform also adds adjustable shards, cross-chain communication, light customer support and updated expansion mechanics.
The new branch system is designed to streamline Validator to Boarding and offers early stimuli for users who migrate from Zilliqa 1.0. This is part of a broader shift that is intended to switch to the liquidity to the upgraded network while retaining performance.
The route map of Zilliqa includes future additives such as smart accounts and zero knowledge functions, with objectives to support digital identity, programmable assets and privacy-retaining compliance tools.
Building first projects on Zilliqa 2.0 Span areas such as tokenized assets, regulated Defi and fintech infrastructure. Early integrations include partnerships with LTIN and Debridge, which are planning to bring native USDC to the network.
Under 1.0, the network has experienced periods of instability, including validator bugs and service cases. According to the team, the upgraded version offers a more modular and error -tolerant architecture to tackle technical limitations and to improve the overall network reliability.
In a commentary on the upgrade, the interim -CEO of Zilliqa Alexander Zahnd emphasized the importance of the transformation.
“We build the blockchain settings that can trust the speed, flexibility or openness that brought us here in the first place. The next era of Blockchain will not be built on hype. It will be built on trust, transparency and technical excellence. That’s what Zilliqa 2.0 stands for,” he said.
