In short
- Civitai’s new policy that was introduced in April 2025 have loudly complaining users due to stricter content limitations and moderation.
- Makers complain about sudden censorship, mysterious content removals and income headache.
- Users are now sources in stock, shift to local AI generation or desperately look for less tense alternatives.
Civitai, once considered the wild west of AI-generated arts and one of the last remaining ports where almost everything went to a community-wide collapse after rolling out strict new Content Control Lines last week.
Although the site was not explicitly a porn site, it was aimed at various NSFW communities, including furries, mature oriented anime, extreme BDSM and more.
“We are updating our policy to comply with the increasing research on AI content. New rules prohibit certain categories of content, including incest, self-damage, diaper and a number of physical excretions. All NSFW-Uploads now require Metadata to remain visible. A new maturation system is intended to improve the last week.
These rules effectively prohibit content that was popular with certain user segments. Moreover, the new policy has effectively castrated the options for generating income for images with real people, especially celebrities.
And of course, makers are not really happy with losing the possibility of downloading sources to generate characters who satisfy their most explicit – and weirdest – fantasies. Civitai’s post currently has more than 950 side effects versus 375 supporting voices.
Complaints have quickly multiplied about Reddit and X, where users regret the abrupt disappearance of their content and regret the lack of clear explanations.
“It makes no sense,” said Dario Hernandez, one of the 3.2 million users of the platform, said Decrypt. “I mean, the characters in these generations do not exist, nobody hurt and nobody could care about them.”
“Someone else completely lost the motivation to get in touch with Civitai and share models?” Reddit user Titanuranus wrote in Reddit and reflected the irritation of the broader community.
Civitai has introduced stricter guidelines around “Buzz”, are virtual currency, which means that makers can now say goodbye to easily earn income from their more … Doubtful creations.
Many users suspect that these policy klems are due to external pressure, especially of payment giants such as Visa and Mastercard, who have historically taken a hard line on content for adults.
In combination with solving legal concerns about images generated by AI, Civitai seems to be caught between keeping payment processors happy and a creative but sometimes provocative community.
“The problem is 100% caused by visa, and every company that accepts visa cards will ultimately add these limitations,” wrote Alex Cardinel, CEO of AI Platform Nomi, in a long Reddit post. “There is currently no way to circumvent this, although I personally work very hard on sustainable long -term alternatives.”

Hey fans and users of @Hellocivitai – Especially everyone who is considering stopping? You must now know that what Civit does is because they have no choice. They have to secure more financing and obey their payment processors …
Or end. It’s just so black and white now.

To protect their rights to generate strange things and to protect their precious Loras – small but highly personalized models that are trained on a specific concept or style – many users have taken proactive measures.
Panic downloading has become a pastime, with communities such as R/Civitiarchives that can be stretched to the archive of potentially endangered content.
Others, the escalating costs and limited creative freedom, shift to local AI generation tools.
“Just make your own Degen images locally if you like that stuff,” wrote Reddit user Blackdragonbe Wednesday. “Your first mistake was that Civitai was a porn site.”
Others took the decentralized route, argue for sharing their Loras, models and resources via Torrents.
The best two sites to search for deleted models At the moment, TensorArt (actually a Civitai Clone,) Diffusionarc and the Civitai archive seem to be.
Despite understanding the need for compliance with external requirements, users feel betrayed by the seemingly endless stream of limitations, for fear of the day on which even mild risky content can be the following on the chopping block.
“It is always a screw tightened.” Oh, that’s not that bad. ” Another screw becomes tighter, “Civitai User Sneakystoat is in the end there are no screws.
