Google has become a member of OpenAi to encourage President Donald Trump’s government to facilitate limitations on AI training, in particular around the use of copyright protected material.
Both tech giants submitted policy proposals on Thursday and argue for a more flexible approach to regulations for artificial information, while the US government is preparing its “AI action plan” in mid-2025.
The proposals submitted by Google and OpenAI are a response to President Trump’s new focus to the regulation of artificial information, after his withdrawal of the AI version of the previous administration in January 2025.
OpenAi and Google claim that the loosening of obstacles in intellectual property is essential to promote innovation and to maintain American leadership in AI development.
“Fair use and exceptions in the field of text and data” are of crucial importance for constant AI research, said Google, and noticed how strict copyright policy could hinder progress on artificial intelligence fields, including healthcare, scientific discovery and economic development.
In his proposal, Google welcomed the focus of the Trump government on artificial intelligence and said that the purpose of developing a plan to “support and improve the global AI -Dominance of America” is crucial for American leadership.
In January, Trump unveiled a Stargate project of $ 500 billion, aimed at strengthening the American AI infrastructure, including OpenAi with important contributors, in addition to other technical giants such as Microsoft and Oracle.
The call for relaxed copyright laws comes when both Google and OpenAI are confronted with countless lawsuits about the use of copyright protected material when training their artificial intelligence models.
For example, OpenAi is currently involved in various controversial lawsuits submitted by authors and publishers who accuse the company of the use of their copyrighted works without permission.
Authors such as Sarah Silverman and George RR Martin, together with other well -known figures, have joined forces to challenge OpenAi’s use of their writings in training models such as Chatgpt.
Similarly, Google has had to deal with accusations of the use of copyright content to train its AI models, including the AI-driven tools such as the YouTube music recommendation system, which was suspended due to concerns about copyright.
Apart from copyright issues, both companies released their concern about the fragmented state level regulations that are currently governing AI in the US
With more than 780 AI-related accounts that were considered at state level, Google warned that the lack of a uniform federal approach could create compliance chaos and suppress innovation.
Google has called for a coherent federal policy that determines a clear framework for artificial intelligence development, so that companies can operate in state lines without contradictory regulations.
“While America is currently leading the world in AI – and the home base is of the most capable and generally adopted artificial intelligence models and tools – our management is not insured,” Warned Google, stating the comments from Vice -President Vance on the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris, France.
The new Executive Order of Trump priority gives the enforcement of global dominance in artificial intelligence and mandates that an extensive “AI action plan” is presented to the president within 180 days.
