It’s been a wild year for crypto gaming, with some real surprises in the mix.
Who would have thought at the start of the year that tap-to-earn gaming – a super-sleek riff on the play-to-earn model – would be the biggest story of the year? And who would have thought that we would end the year with a huge crypto game that would make serious inroads among mainstream gamers?
That’s just the tip of the iceberg of the interesting twists we’ve seen this year, so with 2025 just around the corner, here’s a look back at seven games that have truly defined crypto gaming over the past twelve months. And stay tuned, like Declutter‘s GG will continue to report on the next big games to shake up this exciting space.
Non-coin
Notcoin may have taken obvious inspiration from previous ‘clicker’ games like Cookie Clicker, but it undoubtedly created – and actually delivered – the Telegram ‘tap-to-ear’ craze.

Billions of dollars worth of crypto (at NOT’s peak value) were eventually distributed to players, spawning a wave of clones. None of them lived up to the impact of the original, even though some eventually attracted more players, but that shouldn’t diminish Notcoin’s immense impact.
Off the grid
It should come as no surprise that GG’s pick for the 2024 Game of the Year is on this list, and when it comes to pure gameplay, nothing else comes close. Off the Grid delivers a strong riff on the familiar battle royale shooter gameplay of Apex Legends or Call of Duty Warzone, with exciting twists such as cybernetic limbs that grant special abilities.
That made for plenty of viral moments when the game launched into early access in October, but what many players may not realize is that there’s a blockchain behind the scenes, with an upcoming token launch and NFTs containing tradable items that will complete the story. will definitely change the game.
Pixels
Social farming game Pixels gained quite a bit of attention when it migrated to the Ethereum gaming network Ronin in late 2023, but it became a game changer in the crypto world early this year when it launched its PIXEL token, delivering significant rewards for early players.
Pixels didn’t disappear when the cryptocurrency was handed out, though, as the game has only expanded and evolved since then, keeping players connected as the developers explore spin-off games like Pixel Dungeons and an early access Telegram game, plus further improvements . forward.
Hamster fight
For a buzzy moment this summer, Hamster Kombat briefly became one of the most talked-about games in the world, with Telegram’s tap-to-earn game attracting a total of 300 million players.

It reached a much larger audience than Notcoin with extensive gameplay elements, requiring players to run their own crypto exchange. However, many players found the airdrop disappointing, and a planned second season of gameplay is still MIA.
Fantasy top
Fantasy Top felt like the hottest thing in crypto for about two weeks earlier this year, at least for those immersed in Crypto Twitter. Designed as an NFT fantasy sports game built around real Twitter influencers, Fantasy Top on Ethereum layer-2 network Blast was, for that brief moment, a roaring engagement machine. The buzz died down relatively quickly, but with new funding recently raised, we’re curious to see if Fantasy Top can regain momentum.
Parallel
Parallel was GG’s pick for the best crypto game last year, but in 2024 it started making substantial inroads with players. This year, Parallel entered open beta, launched to a much wider audience via the Epic Games Store, and debuted its esports series with a major championship in Las Vegas in March 2025.
And the icing on the cake was popular F1 driver Fernando Alonso endorsing the game. It’s still one of the best blockchain games you can play, and it only seems to be growing.
Crypto: the game
Crypto: The Game is indeed a game built around crypto, but above all it is not a video game. It’s a multimedia experience inspired by the TV show ‘Survivor’, which combines real and online events and a bit of video gaming, not to mention social maneuvering.
The first two seasons ran early this year and were widely praised by many players as some of the most fun they’ve ever had in the industry. After being acquired by Uniswap Labs, an upcoming third season aims to be bigger and better while maintaining the immersive atmosphere of the original efforts.
