HTX Returned $8 Mln Of Stolen Funds And Paid The Hacker A Bounty Of 250 ETH

October 11, 2023No Comments1 Min Read

At the end of September, HTX lost 5,000 ETH, but quickly took action to recover the stolen funds. Cryptocurrency exchange HTX Huobi Global confirmed the return of funds stolen by a hacker at the end of September and, after resolving the problem, offered a bounty of 250 ETH.

On September 25, 5,000 ETH was stolen from one of the HTX hot wallets, which was approximately $8 million at the time. Shortly after the hack occurred, the firm contacted the hacker and claimed to know their identity. HTX ultimately offered to pay a 5% bounty worth about $400,000 and not take any legal action if the hackers returned 95% of the funds by October 2.

In the third quarter of 2023, hacker attacks gained momentum. According to a recent report from blockchain security platform Immunefi, there were 76 hacks of cryptocurrency and Web3 projects and firms in the third quarter of 2023, up from 30 in the third quarter of 2022.
